Anima Mundi #5, Berlin (2024)

I’m excited to announce a new project that I’ve been working on in Berlin.

First of all, some background – the two live shows and soundwalk that are featured below are part of a bigger project that I’ve been helping to co-curate – Anima Mundi #5. The whole project has been pulled together by the wonderful Janine Eisenächer from the Errant Sound collective.

ANIMA MUNDI is a long-standing European exchange project and network of project spaces for sound art and contemporary music, with record labels and artists from Germany, Poland and Ireland producing innovative works of contemporary music and sound art on the theme of environmental relationships, climate change and ecological issues and presents them to a broad local audience.

On Sept 12th, the project launches at Liebig12 as part of the Month of Contemporary Music Berlin and Zeitgeist Irland 24, a year of cultural co-operation between Ireland and Germany. I will be performing a programme of sounds with my Sonic Baton, originally recorded in Ireland as part of last year’s residency at Interface in Connemara.

And on Oct 12th, I will be holding another listening event for Sonic Hauntings in a Big House, hosted by Irish record label Farpoint Recordings. Hopefully the vinyl album will be on sale on the day, although these days vinyl is a tricky proposition with pressing plants overwhelmed and orders placed months before being severely delayed. Fingers crossed! At the very least we will be having a listening session, a discussion with label co-founder Anthony Kelly about the making processes behind the album and taking pre-orders. The record comes in a beautiful package designed in-house, and is accompanied by a specially commissioned essay from renowned sound art theorist, Salomê Voegelin, which is very exciting indeed…

I hope to see you there, if you are in the vicinity. Also on Oct 12th, I am leading a guided soundwalk in the Engelbecken district of Circa Regna Tonat produced for SLEEPERTOWN, the audio geo-location project curated by Richard Carr.

Take a look at the Errant Sound website for full listings – the project continues until Nov 2nd.

ANIMA MUNDI is funded by Musikfonds / der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.

The project is part of Zeitgeist Irland 24, an initiative of Culture Ireland and the Embassy of Ireland in Germany.

The programme in September is additionally part of the Month of Contemporary Music Berlin produced by neue musik e.V. / field notes berlin.
