The Joy of Isolation (2020)

Myself and three other sound artists have created improvised musical/sonic performances in response to the theme The Joy of Isolation. The results are now available on cassette and as a digital download on Bandcamp, in partnership with Paul Khimasia Morgan of Aural Detritus Concert Series.

Sound artists:
Blanca Regina
Embla Quickbeam
Paul Khimasia Morgan
Joseph Young

The album was created after an initial plan to create a series of site-specific performances to accompany the Joy exhibition at The Ceramic House, curated by Kay Aplin, had to be cancelled due to Covid. Paul and I came up with a score for all the artists which consisted of series of instructions to prepare sounds in isolation and then perform as an improvisation with minimal post-production.

To celebrate the launch of “The Joy of Isolation” album, Aural Detritus founder Paul Khimasia Morgan focuses on the album release in his latest podcast. He chats to artist BLANCA REGINA about her  projects, her multi-media working practice and plays material from her brand new album on Unpredictable Series with STEVE BERESFORD, “What Blue”. Plus, there’s sounds from EMBLA QUICKBEAM, STRAY TRANSMISSION, KURONEKO, UPWARD and myself.
