It’s always nice when your work is recognised and acknowledged in some way, especially when you’re not expecting it!
I am happy to announce that I have been shortlisted for the annual Sound Walk September Award, hosted by Walk Listen Create. The nomination comes for my audio paper Soundwalking. Listening and Contested Histories which I made about my hauntological soundtrail The Ancestors; it examines how soundwalking can be used as a research methodology to explore place, heritage and site. If that sounds a bit dry, I used an excerpt from the soundwalk itself to illustrate my points as I pick my way through the text of Walk This Place which was originally created as part of a short residency at IMMA in Dublin.
Given that the work I have been nominated for is about an artwork rather than the artwork itself (albeit presented in the non-standard format of an audio paper) I’ll be interested to hear people’s reactions to both the essay and the artwork it refers to.
